Marbled Clay Dishes

Over the years I’ve accumulated a lot of traditional costume jewelry which I rarely get a chance to wear.  I feel guilty having it tucked away inside the drawer. I came across this idea on pinterest and decided to try it out. Although I have never worked with polymer clay before I was very pleased with the result. You really can’t go wrong with marbling since each piece comes out unique.

You will need the following supplies

Assortment of polymer clay

Bowl

knife

gold paint/gold gilding2016-01-19-22.41.19.png.pngStart by choosing three to four colors of your choice. Knead the polymer clay in your hand to soften it. Roll out each piece into a snake (there is no better way to explain it!)

Squish the clay into a ball. Using a rolling pin, flatten it between two sheets of parchment paper. Use a bowl to cut out a round shape about 1/4 inch thick.

Bake it in the oven for 15 mins @275 degrees (follow instructions for your brand of polymer clay)

I let them cool in the oven before turning it over. 2016-01-19-14.06.27.png.png

I  painted the edges gold with my leftover gilding paint from a previous project which you will find here.  As you can see, I got a little carried away and made quite a few. These are very addictive so don’t say I didn’t warn you. These darling clay dishes are perfect to hold all your trinkets . Use them for paperclips, bobby pins, change, jewelry and all of your tiny treasures. Keep one by your bedside to hold your rings or watch.

I make sure to switch them periodically so all the pieces have a chance to be on display. Don’t judge ! 🙂  If you plan to gift a friend you can even add her initials in the center of the dish with the gold paint.
